Tricks

As another training option for dog owners who want to have fun with their dogs, AKC has added four new titles to create the AKC Trick Dog program. The Tricks class builds on the skills learned in the beginner classes. More advanced skills are presented to challenge you and your dog. Here is another opportunity for 'socializing' your dog.
AKC Trick Dog Program

As another training option for dog owners who want to have fun with their dogs, AKC has added four new titles to create the AKC Trick Dog program. AKC now offers the following titles:
• AKC Novice Trick Dog (TKN)
• AKC Intermediate Trick Dog (TKI)
• AKC Advanced Trick Dog (TKA)
• AKC Trick Dog Performer (TKP)

The AKC Trick Dog titles will be 1) administered by CGC Evaluators or 2) AKC will also recognize the equivalent titles from Kyra Sundance’s Do More With Your Dog!™ We have a good working relationship with Kyra and are pleased to also recognize DMWYD!™ titles.

Dogs who are registered or listed with AKC may apply to earn the AKC Trick Dog titles, which will be listed on the dog’s AKC title record. All dogs, including mixed breeds, can earn AKC Trick Dog titles as long as the dog is AKC-registered, listed with AKC Canine Partners, or enrolled in the Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL) program. (AKC creates a title for a dog by attaching it to the dog’s AKC, PAL or AKC Canine Partners number).

We hope that these exciting new titles will encourage more dogs and owners to become involved in training.

AKC will begin awarding the Trick titles on May 1, 2017. (Please note that any applications received prior to May 1 will not be processed until then, however, fees are deducted as soon as paperwork arrives in AKC’s mail room).

To apply for a title, see the list of tricks for each title, or learn more about the AKC Trick Dog program, visit www.akc.org/trick-dog.

THERE ARE TWO WAYS YOU CAN EARN AKC TRICK DOG TITLES:

1) Perform the tricks (from the check list in the Title Application) in the presence of an AKC Approved CGC Evaluator. The Title Application will need to accompany the check list for the particular title you are applying for.

2) AKC will recognize Do More With Your Dog!™(DMWYD) titles at Novice, Intermediate and Advanced levels. The Title Application will need to accompany proof of the DMWYD title being earned, such as a copy of the actual title.
